A renovation can take me on a journey in many different ways in many different places.
Wrapping Posts and Beams with Pine Boards.
Hello folks. We are still here, just busy. I wanted to show you how we went about wrapping posts and beams in an older home.
Spray Frost on Windows
A few years back we used spray frost for the first time and it was a success. Our laundry room has no windows so when we finished the basement, we bought a door with a full glass insert and got busy with spray frost. The result was better than expected, especially when we had gone to a speciality glass store in town and they wanted six hundred dollars to do the same thing. I kid you not.
Changing up the Entryway
With the heat continuing outdoors (humidity sucks) work continues indoors. When we painted the living room two weeks ago, we brought the same paint into the entryway since they are open to each other. We just painted the upper portion of the walls knowing we would get around to finishing it off sooner or later. No time like the present.
Repairs to a House Built in the 1850’s
My Aunt lives across the lake from us in a house built in the 1850’s. Its a beautiful old, well taken care of, farmhouse. These days you hear the term ‘farmhouse’ used at random to describe furniture or wall and ceiling treatments, even kitchen sinks. What they are trying to replicate is my Aunt’s house. The real thing. We get to watch the sun set over her house every evening.
Replacing 150 year old Window Panes
Last weekend Jim and a couple of other local men got together and repaired the damages to the local church after our last wind storm. The only thing not touched were the three window panes which broke.
Local Church Sustains Wind Damage
This week we had another nor’easter storm blow through. We didn’t get any of the snow that was forecasted but the winds packed a punch. Our local church didn’t make it through the storm unscathed.
We finished painting and installing new flooring at a neighbours house yesterday. The flooring was tricky in spots with a lot of undercutting of the baseboard and sometimes removing it all together. All her door casings had plinth blocks.
Painting and Flooring: Part 2
We are still plugging away at a neighbours house, and yes…we are still painting. Yesterday we almost finished all the painting in the master vanity/walk-in closet/toilet-tub area but we ran out of white paint.
Here is the before of the closet… walls, ceiling, trim…everything was beige.
Painting and Flooring Job
Yesterday we started a small job which has grown in size. If you remember, we had installed a new glass storm door for a neighbour a few weeks ago. At the time she mentioned she would like to have new flooring installed in two bedrooms: a spare bedroom and her master bedroom and ensuite, plus walk-in closet.
The spare room had some damage to the drywall where a cabinet had been removed, so she asked to have the drywall fixed and both rooms painted.
First up was fixing the drywall in the spare room.
Pine logs and water issues
The weather this past week was beautiful. Cool nights and warm afternoons with a good breeze. Can’t complain. We got a start on milling the pine logs, I would say we are NEARLY half way through the pile. We try and get in a few hours everyday, only way to get them milled it seems. One noteworthy log measured 16 inches across.
