A beautiful start to October
Well today is the 1st of October, and what a great day to start the month. We took advantage of the nice Saturday and set about making more reindeer.

July comes to an end
The end of July typically tells me we are about half way through our summer. Or is that ‘simmer’? It sure has been a hot month here in Nova Scotia, and little rain fall to show for it.

SMG Champion sawmill delivery
You see logs? I saw logs! 🙂 Really… I cant. 🙂 (A cant is a sawyer’s word for cutting a square timber from a log). (That’s me in the orange t-shirt.)

Balsam fir slabs aging nicely
A while back I made a small jig for slabbing small diameter lumber using the small chainsaw. About 6 weeks ago I did about 10 random lengths of 8ft to 10 ft fir in different thicknesses.

Sawmill shopping. Thinking of Wood-mizer? Check this.
I’m in the market for a sawmill. I sent a legit question to the Wood-mizer web site asking about motor options. I posted the question to their web site.
The person who picked up that inquiry, Dave Cheel, forwarded it to the National Sales Manager BUT not without adding in their own comments first.[Edit: Correction: It appears that comment was from Dorian Lavallee (National Sales Mgr), not Dave Cheel.]Nice. Do you really think I would ever buy something from Wood-Mizer now?

What kind of tree is this?
This tree is at the top of our driveway, a natural tree that I just decided to start trimming years ago because it was beginning to grow up into the branches above it.

Kings United Cemetery Cleanup Day
A great volunteer effort in the community of Loch Katrine yesterday. We assembled with chainsaws and tractors to take down many large trees that were starting to get in the way of power lines. -
Morning views
The sun rises over the eastern hillside at 8:30 am this April 27th. I trudged up the driveway for roadside recycling and garbage disposal this Wednesday morning. Frost on the grass, but it calls for 10º C today… just right.
Earlier this morning we had some fun watching this squirrel contort themselves to get at the bird feeder I made a while back. Captured some of it on video.

Pine trees and porcupines
Pretty sure these tracks in the snow belong to a porcupine. We have seen evidence of bark being peeled form trees on the property, as shown in the following picture.
