Decks
I've built a few decks or repaired them over the years.

Deck skirting
With some vertical bracing on place, this deck skirting went on fairly easy.

Front Step, Walkway and Flower Box Extension part 3
The previous walkway was two layers of asphalt pavement. I rented a pneumatic jack hammer that ran on 110v plug in. REAL easy to use and easily made short work of removing pavement. The best $55 spent on what would have been very labour intesive work. The pavement was removed to be replaced with a wooden walkway.

Front Step, Walkway and Flower Box Extension part 2
The original step came straight out from the front doorway. I decided it would be interesting to turn the step to line up with the exiting flower beds. Posts were installed with built in lighting and railing with a double top rail and alternating vertical panels.

Front Step, Walkway and Flower Box Extension
What started out as a simple front step replacement eventually turned into a complete overhaul of the front landscape of my neighbour’s home. The original concrete step remains. The frame was built over it, resting on it. The extension of the deck sits on deck concrete blocks.

Deck in the round Grand Finale
So, finally, the completed shots. One taken from our neighbors deck and two taken from the roof of my workshop.
-
Deck in the round part 6
So this is a close up shot of a completed post with the cap installed. The cap is attached with two deck screws through the top down into the sides of the post.

Deck in the round with lighting part 5
Well, it took more than a week to build the panels for the upper deck.
-
Deck in the round part 4
Well, by the time I was done this level my nerves were about shot! Between bad boards and just plain ol’ having a bad day and not to mention I forgot to install the 1/2 inch plywood banding around the perimeter **prior** to installing the decking. Oh well. I’ll have to figure something out.

Deck in the round part 3
Posts and beams are in place. Now getting ready to position the joists 16 inch on center.

Deck in the round Part 2
I first installed a few upper and lower portions of the blocking and thought about how to cut the curves. I choose to use a reciprocating saw but not only was it a rough cut, my arms continued to shake after the saw was off! 🙂 I used 1/2 inch pressure treated plywood as a banding to cover up the blocking.
