Weekend update
Happy Thanksgiving. We had a busy weekend.
On Friday afternoon, we met up with Dave Restoule, the arborist we worked with a few times before to take down the remaining trees at my Moms place. In May (hard to believe it was that long ago) we worked with Dave to take down, I think it was 4 maple trees that were 70 feet tall. Got a nice bit of firewood from those. Some were rotten at the base though.

Finishing our cleanup.
We didn’t waste any time getting back to operation cleanup!! The next morning we headed out and first up was loading the newly re-built wood bin with the pile of maple firewood we picked up for free in Guysborough. We had to cut and split them. I just set aside any that were too large and they would be split smaller later.

Taking a crack at carving a tree from a block of what I think is Trembling Aspen. One thing is for certain, when cutting with the grain on this wood, you need a really sharp chain, as you will see in the video. -

chainsaw carved tree About a year ago I seen some chainsaw carved trees from blocks of wood. I’ve been searching online for tutorials or videos and could not find anything that really taught a person how to do it. So, I thought I’d try anyway.

Wood you believe? I find that when I need to take my mind off of the day to day things, I go into the workshop. However with no power, there’s not a lot I’d like to do with manual tools. I do have my chainsaw, so I set about creating some wood chips.
