Baking
Baking has been a part of my life as long as woodworking.

New fruit cake
For some time now we’ve been enjoying a pound cake type of cake made with yogurt. A while bake I thought of using the cake batter as a base for fruit cake.

New raisin bread recipe
Trying a new raisin bread recipe I found on Facebook by Troy Croucher. The first part of the recipe requires the making of a slurry of some of the ingredients. Something I never did before for bread making so I was curious to try it.

Another storm coming
SO its time to prepare, just in case the power goes out again for a couple days. 🙂

A day in the life
A day in the life of us. There’s always a woodworking project to finish off. Coffee breaks occur several times a day and of course, what’s a coffee break without cake! 🙂

Homemade cinnamon rolls
There is no better cure for a cool spring day than a fresh batch of home made cinnamon rolls 🙂

Apple fritters and sour cream bits
After a long week of working, time for a treat. We mixed up two batches of deep fried bits; apple fritters and sour cream cake donuts. Both recipes can be easily found online. The sour cream cake donuts are delicious. The apple fritters are, well, different. They are really tasty but … spongy. Yes, I said spongy. Even after they have cooled, the large amount of shredded apple keeps the donut really moist and soft. I kept the lid off of the container all night and today I took them out of that open container and put them back on a cooling rack on the counter. Out in the open and not covered, in hopes that the donut would dry a little bit. Not so. I have to say its an odd texture, almost like eating a marshmallow.

Storm Bits
Storm’s a comin’. Baked bread yesterday (4). Just finished 2 double batch of pita wraps (32). And now, a couple batches of cake donuts, (a.k.a. Jim Bits, Storm Bits). Some people head to the stores for storm chips, its a common thing to do in the Atlantic provinces.

Buns near the oven
At least once a week, its bread making time. During the winter, with the fire in full use, the floor around the firebox is always toasty warm. A good place to let the dough relax and rise.

Brown Sugar Cookies
With the power back on, its time to replenish the cookie cupboard. 🙂 I had spied this Brown Sugar Cookie recipe in the Company’s Coming Cookies recipe book a few days earlier. This afternoon after lunch, with the oven still warm from lunch, I took a crack at making these treats.

Pan pizza
Found a recipe online for pizza hut pan pizza dough. Followed the recipe exactly but the dough came out really tough. Baked it anyway and the pizza were ok. With a tweak of the recipe I’m sure it will be really good.
