Making a Confederation Tray
It started as an experiment, like most things do around here. To try it and see what happens. We had harvested some hemlock logs from Sutherland’s River, NS in the winter of 2017/2018. We decided to slice up some hemlock into round discs, called cookies, and follow through the process of levelling, sanding and finishing. But first, we have to count the rings. I counted just over 150 rings. That means this tree sprouted at about the same time a group of men gathered in Charlottetown, PEI. Which is just up the road and across the water :). Confederation Cookies.

Homemade wood stain
homemade wood stain I read so much about vinegar and steel wool, and finally caved in and decided to see what all the hubub was about. I used a mason jar with one wad of steel wool and filled it with white vinegar (5% acetic acid).

Woodworking Tip for Oily Smudges
Put some sawdust in your box of finish nails. It will absorb the oil that comes on the nails, preventing it from causing smudges on the unfinished wood of your projects.

Christmas Candles #129
Completed project With the pattern in hand (downloadable PDF available to purchase in our online store), its easy to make changes to a woodworking plan. In this case we took a 15 inch tall candle and made it 36 inches tall. Why? Why not! 🙂

A cheap portable spray booth. This kitchen cabinet set is 25 years old and it featured door handles in the middle of the door panel. They wanted new hardware and the door handles moved to the lower corner of the doors.
