Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse We recently completed the building plans for a 10ft tall Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse. Now its time to get busy in the workshop to make a production model.

Before the repair When I built this garage 7-8 years ago I reused windows from the in-laws large dining room window. I had to make up my own window casings and every other year I’d have to scrape and paint the casings. But, over time the water got in and leaks led to rot and mold. Time to replace them with some solid vinyl windows.

Choosing a pattern. When I was making my sliding garage screen door I wanted to add something different to decorate the door. I have already chosen my plywood and tested some router bits. So now its time to get busy with the experimenting. 🙂

Sunroom glass install 5 So here you can see the aluminum track and the use of butyl tape to adhere the glass to the track and the wood frame. The grey butyl tape shown earlier along with the aluminum tracks drawings will make more sense.

Sunroom angled door 1 All stained, still waiting for the glass. The following few pics show the screen door built on the south side, and adjusting the door so that it can swing open. A sloped door presents its own set of challenges.

Sunroom deck construction 14 Spent part of the morning putting up the rafters and installing some of the uprights. Nursing a sore left elbow, not sure how that happened. Slowed up by that and the drill’s battery needing recharge every hour (only have one). Its all coming together pretty good. Did some quick measures for the glass roof. Gonna need 6 sheets of approximately 22 x 111 inches.

Sunroom deck construction 9 Finished putting the foam wedges on the other upright and cut the 2×8 upper header with a 3/8 inch deep by 1/2 inch wide rabbet to accomodate the upper edge of the safety glass ceiling panels.

Sunroom deck construction 7 One of the purposes of the sunroom is to be able to enjoy the outdoors without being bothered by the bugs. Since the sunroom will be up against the siding there will be lots of gaps. I’m not keen on the idea of lots of and lots of silicone and caulking so this is my solution.
