Custom Map Of Nova Scotia For RCMP
No stopping us now!! We’re on a roll. We were contacted by the Pictou County RCMP requesting a map of Nova Scotia similar to the other 6 maps we have done for them. Since then we have completed two more, all similar in size with the badge number included. For this one, we were asked if it was possible to have the RCMP crest in the lower right hand corner.
Here is the crest….

We were sent a black and white image of the crest. Now, beautiful as it is, it would only be about 2.5 inches tall and after consulting with our resident wood burner (aka my sister) we determined it was going to be too small to capture the details as we would like. Plan B. We know someone who has a laser printer and can print on wood, but again, too small to capture the details.
After a few emails with our contact for these maps, we all decided this image of the RCMP musical rider would work instead.

All the steps we took to build this project are much like the other maps we have done. Print out a copy of the map, choose wood, and get to cutting on the scroll saw.

We choose boards and cut them down to size to make a 16 x 24 inch backer board.

While Jim worked on the scroll saw, I got a work out on the sander. Can confirm, fingers are all intact. Not always the case!

We chose thin plywood for the Musical Rider, printed the image out on paper, and drilled holes into each section that was enclosed.

Then did the cutting on the scroll saw.

With just a light sanding around the edges of the Musical Rider and a little black paint we were inching closer to the finish line.

I like it just like that but the request was for the backer board to be painted in the same navy as the others and I never turn down a request for paint. I’d rather paint than sand any day.

Got a request? Bring it!!
