How we built our shipping container building
This video documents our year-long journey constructing a storage facility by bridging two shipping containers with a trussed roof.
Throughout the video, we outline the labour-intensive process of painting the metal units semi-gloss black and securing large wooden trusses despite challenging summer heat. A significant portion of the project involves customizing the space for firewood storage, including the creation of bespoke wooden racks for efficient stacking. We share practical construction insights, such as the installation of foam weather strips and a concealed access door between the structures. Their narrative emphasizes a “slow and steady” approach, balancing the renovation with daily chores like firewood splitting over several seasons. The project concludes with a functional outbuilding that serves as both a protected dry-storage area and a potential workshop space.
