Pom Pom Reindeer Christmas Ornaments
Every year around this time I usually make a new ornament for our Christmas tree. Then tuck it away until it’s time to decorate the tree. Usually I have forgotten about it and it’s fun to haul it out when the time comes.
A week or so ago I made these modern wooden Santas.
Last year I made candles and the year before I made the wood slices on the left. Another favourite is the wood bead “icicles” behind the candle.
There was also these wooden Santas…
And these wooden ornaments we made on the scroll saw.
This year it is going to be reindeer. To start, I drew a reindeer head with antlers on a piece of paper. Then transferred that onto thin plywood using tracing paper.
Out in the workshop, I cut a few of them out on the scroll saw. I had traced a lot of them incase I accidentally cut of the antlers or something but all went smoothly and I soon had four reindeer heads.
After minimal hand sanding it was time to head in to the house for the next steps.
First up was checking out my craft drawer for yarn to make pom poms. Not something I use very often but I found three colors of yarn, so that’s what I’ll use.
I wound the yarn around my hand, slid it off, tied it in the middle, then cut the loops on either end. When you tie it off, keep those ties long to use for hanging on the tree.
Then it was time to trim. The shorter you go the tighter the pom pom will be.
Back to the reindeer heads. I grabbed some beads that were leftover from a previous project and painted four red noses and 16 brown beads for feet.
Time to assemble. First I glued the reindeer head onto the pom pom, then glued four brown beads for feet onto the bottom.
I think they are so cute.
Now to tuck them away until December when the tree goes up!
Later.
