Wood Map of British Columbia
We got an email this week from a girl inquiring about a wood map of BC. In the email she included a couple of Nova Scotia wood maps she found on our For Sale page. Since she was mailing the map to a friend who is getting married, she wanted a smaller map.
So, like this, only replace the NS with a BC cut out of wood.
First thing we did was do a google search for the map of BC, sized it to fit on a 9 x 12 inch backer board, and printed it out.
Since BC is orientated north to south, unlike NS, we decided to make the backer board with the weathered boards going from left to right.
It got glued and nailed and set aside while Jim started cutting out the map of BC from beautiful spalted maple.
She also asked if we could place two small red hearts on the locations where the bride and groom were from. Sure. Fun. I drew them out on a spare piece of wood and Jim cut them out on the scroll saw. Then they got a coat of red paint. I stuck a push pin into the back of each heart in order to hold them while being painted. So small.
She also asked if we could add the date of the wedding to the lower corner, so I used a black paint pen to do that.
Now time for assembly. First up we added a hanger to the back, this size map is perfect for leaning on a shelf but they may want to hang it up. Nice to have options.
The map got glued and nailed from the back onto the backer board for extra security.
The smaller islands and the two red hearts got attached with glue only.
Love these hearts…
Here it is all finished.
And on a shelf…
All ready for the mail tomorrow for the first leg of its journey. Perfect personalized wedding gift.
Later.
