A match set of maps
A person has to be just as careful with matches around woodworking as they are cutting out a mating set of detailed maps.
The process always starts with a selection of naturally weathered boards from our inventory. Then pieces are cut, planed and glued together into the size of the panel necessary. Next up is the painting process, a technique that Gina has mastered. Note the makeshift apron 🙂
Then it’s my turn to take over and start the scroll sawing of the panel. Thankfully the boss comes along from time to time and cuts in to give me a few minutes break. Good boss!
Once the cutting is down, its clean up time and then assembly of the maps. These maps are fairly heavy. The one below probably comes in at about 4kg (8-9lbs). Instead of the standard 3 tooth metal hanger, we use picture frame wire for hanging the art work.
