Kiln drying firewood in June

Too bad I didn’t figure that out until the drying cycle was over but apparently some saw dust had plugged up the drain line on the kiln’s compressor.

I figure the plug started about 36 hrs before the final shutdown this morning. I noticed that the drain was not trickling out water like it should at about that time. It was more of a drip…drip…drip.

The loop in the drain line was longer than pictured above. Once I seen the sawdust plugging the line and cleaned it out, I dramatically reduced the loop by pulling the drain hose through the wall. Next time I will know what to look for.

Above shows the water stains inside the cabinet. So I’m thinking about caulking this better. Suggestions on type of caulk?

A good batch of kiln dried firewood ready for next winter.

Did you know that while kiln dried firewood costs 25% more, you consumed 25% less firewood to obtain the same amount of heat in your home. So basically kiln dried firewood amounts to the same cost traditionally dried firewood with the added bonus of handling less firewood.
