Make Your Own Granola Bars
If you have never even considered making your own granola bars, I am going to try and change your mind today. I won’t give you the recipe but a quick search online will give you many options according to your taste. You might say, “But, Gina, I can just go buy some at the grocery store.” And to that I would say, “When you make them yourself you know what’s in them!”
To start off we chopped up some pecans, cause that’s what we had on hand. We added oats to them and popped them in the oven to toast.
Meanwhile, Jim was melting honey, butter and peanut butter on the stove.
At this point, he added vanilla and salt to the pot and stirred it in. Then the liquid mixture gets added to the oats and nuts.
He mixed it all together…
…and put it into a parchment lined pan.
This is the second time in a couple of weeks that we have made these. You can add what ever you like to them. We added coconut both times and with the first batch we added raisins. This time we skipped the raisins and used chocolate chips. I would say wait for the mixture from the stove to cool before adding the choc chips or they will melt and smear. Ask me how I know.
We have been keeping them in the fridge in a container but they tend to get too hard, so started keeping them on the counter. Much better.
Now you have no excuse to waste your hard earned money on ingredients you can’t even pronounce. Make your own granola bars. Your welcome.
