Provincial Crib Boards

Between life and work we are fitting in Christmas orders. Crib boards have been popular this year, for good reason, they’re awesome.

Here is another one we made this year.

The hardest part with those is getting the tartan fabric lined up correctly. The most time consuming part is designing the holes to fit within the map cutout. Next most time consuming part is making the holes.

Speaking of holes, our 30 year old drill press decided to die. It has been on its last legs for a while now. So Merry Christmas to us. The other day Jim bought a new one which has a few more cool features that the old one didn’t have.

It has a switch on the front for a light. Awesome. It also has a laser X to show you where you will be drilling. Again awesome.

Back to the maps. The first one Jim cut out is a map of Newfoundland that is not a crib board. The customer wanted rustic boards joined together.

Here it is finished, just needs a clear coat.

Next up was cutting a map of NS for a crib board. They specified the size, Jim printed out the map on self-adhesive vinyl and attached the map to the wood.

Then its was off to the scroll saw with a spiral blade to cut the outline, which is on its last leg as well. Soon time for a new one.

Next up will be trying out the new drill press.  I’ll show you a picture on Monday of the finished crib board before it goes in the mail.
