Upgrading pot lights to LED lighting

While at the local post office the other day, the building was having new LED lighting installed. It piqued my curiosity because the retrofit looked so simple.

The box picture above shows what the new product looks like (see Conglom.com) . The fixture in the box is the old pot light. When upgrading, I typically keep old stuff for about a year or so, just to make sure the new product works. So in the box is the old pot light cover.

The changing of the lights is as simple as changing a light bulb. The biggest change is the overall lighting effect once done. A very significant upgrade in brightness, not to mention the savings in electricity…and peace of mind. I’ve always been a bit uneasy with pot lights as they get very, very hot.

The picture below shows the ‘after’ on the left. The photo on the right shows the ‘before’ with one retrofit done (light in upper right corner).

We will most likely seek out more of these fixtures to replace what we have, as they come in different sizes.
