The Big Key Rack scrollsaw craft project
Scrap wood crafts projects are the biggest money makers. Simply because they take very little time and you can usually make use of scrap wood left over from bigger projects, or from found wood like pallets.
In our online store we sell a downloadable pattern for the Big Key Rack craft project. After a purchase, you print out the pattern in whatever size you want, we chose the standard size the plan comes as. First step is to choose your board. If you decide to make a really long key, simply repeat the keyed part of the pattern with as many bumps you like. Have some fun with making your own keyed designs.
Step 2 is to place a piece of tracing paper under your paper pattern and trace the lines of the pattern with a pencil or similar pointed object.
Step 3 is to set up your scroll saw and get busy cutting!
Within a few minutes you are done. Time to sand down the edges.
Notice on the plan there are suggestions for hole placement and pin locations for hanging keys. Those are just suggestions, set up your Big Key however you like.
Now in this next picture you can see I cut a groove. its not mentioned in the plan, I only thought of it as I was cutting this one. That is the wonderful thing about plans, they are just a guide. You always have the freedom to change it how you like. The next two photos show how I quickly cut the groove. I simply kept the scraps from cutting the big key, put it all back together and cut it on the tablesaw.
Safety: It would be better to cut the slot FIRST before cutting out the shape.
All that is left to do now is paint it. Choose whatever color you want, or have on hand. Notice in the next photo I have a board with many drywall screws. Its a great way to paint craft projects, especially when both sides are being painted.
Quick and easy. It took longer to paint than it was to cut out. Such is the case with most woodworking craft projects.
