We’ve eaten pulled pork sandwiched before. Our favorite take-out while on the road is Quizno’s subs . As for slow cookers, we’ve known of them and often spoke of getting one so this week we finally bought one. And our first recipe was a pulled pork.

We bought a Crock Pot 6qt slow cooker for $68.95 (taxes included). We bought our slow cooker at a local retailer but you can also buy it online,ย hereย at Amazon for $45-$59.ย While at the grocery store we purchased a few small (2-3 lb) pork roasts. Then we found the packages of pre-mixed spices offered by Crock Pot. There were some other brands too and we bought one of each. Of course, there are scratch recipes online too and we’ll be sure to try them in due time.

We followed the recipe exactly, cooking on low for 8 hours. Once I opened the lid to pour some of the juices over the roast. Near the 8 hrs I took out the roast. I immediately knew that this was going to be delicious because the roast near fell apart just trying to pick it up, it was that tender. With two forks, it easily pulled apart.

We then put the pulled pork back into the Crock Pot and stirred it in with the juices. Its now ready to serve. We dressed up some homemade sub buns… it… was… delicious! We’ll probably never cook a roast in the oven again. Wow.

And now for the geek alert… guest what it cost to have that Crock Pot on low for 8 hours?

It cost 14 cents… double WOW. ๐Ÿ™‚

Pork Roast ย 900g (about 2 lb) $4.20. Energy Consumption $0.14. Crock Pot Pulled Pork Seasoning pkg $1.00. Homemade buns $0.25.

Approximated 10 servings to make sandwiches, cost each $0.56. Not factoring in the Crock Pot which should last years of use. Far, far less than $1.00 to make a delicious sandwich to have at home or to take for a lunch.

This is a great way to make pulled pork! I have done this as well. I cut the pork roast into 1″ slices and then smoked it on the grill with wood chips for about half an hour. Then I put it in the slow cooker with just my own mix of spices and let it go for the day. It is wonderful and economical and EASY! Thanks for sharing your experiences with it. I will have to look for those spices! ๐Ÿ™‚
