How to make a Mason jar soap dispenser

The Mission: Make use of a Mason jar for a soap dispenser.

The Process: Make a hole in 2 Mason jar lids and cut out the top of the plastic bottle.

Let’s start at the workbench and set up the scrollsaw drill a small hole in the lids. I stacked the lids together to cut them at the same time.

Next, I carefully cut the top off. Which can be a little difficult to do so be careful. When I started the cut near the edge (at the 10 o’clock position looking at the photo below) the plastic was denser so it took a bit more effort to push through. As I worked towards the 12 o’clock position the plastic was thinner and required much less effort to cut. Again, please be careful. It takes far less time to be careful than it does to heal from a deep cut.

This is the basic concept.

Now just stack them together.

I thought the lid would screw on easily but I was surprised to learn that there wasn’t much room left to turn the lid. And because of that, you won’t be able to bear down on the lid and tighten it. Just apply a good snug fit otherwise you might strip the lid.

All done except to put it in place.
