The Mission: A good way to make use of a barrel stave.
The Total Cost: $0 materials
The Total Time: 2 hrs

The Process: Cleaned up an old barrel stave and prepped it for drilling and clear coat.

This stave is about 36 inches long and about 6-7 inches wide at the middle. We decided ton seven candle locations and then staggered them. Measuring about 1-3/4 inch from the edge and dividing the stave into 8 equal sections, the locations were marked for drilling the holes. I used a 1-7/8 Forstner bit (flat bottom drill bit) and it took all the power my little tabletop drill press could muster to get the bit to turn in the hardwood. Finished off with 3 coats of clear finish.
