From scrollsaw to jigsaw… working with Sheila Landry to produce a large scale yard art patterns from her scroll saw designs.

The Mission: To convert scrollsaw patterns to jigsawing patterns.

The Total Cost: $30 materials.

The Total Time: 5 hrs

The Process: To enlarge the scrollsaw pattern as is and see if there is any difficulty in cutting the same pattern with a jig saw using a scrolling blade. First we get the Rudolph Reindeer Games Yard Art Ornament pattern to fit onto a 3/4 sheet of plywood. With a little bit of tracing paper and a scrolling jig saw, we make quick work of the cutting. We also used the optional easel display stand.

First thing I do is give it a coat of semi-transparent deck stain. I like using this as a base coat because its primer and paint all in one.

Next we give it 2 coats of blue paint for the backer board.

This plan is available in out online store, found here.

When I first saw this design I immediately thought about it being back lit, between the reindeer and the blue backer board. One way to do that is with blocks to use as spacers, simply measure the length needed, there’s no magic size really. Here I stapled the set of 25 mini lights in place.

Next was to drill a hole in behind the reindeer for the power cord to pass through.

I used 3 scrap blocks as spacers, nailed in three different places and then screwed through the backer board.into the three blocks. All done!
