This is a kitchen island that will be L-shaped and will be a work area and breakfast bar. The work area 24″x48″ will is standard counter height (35″) and the breakfast bar will be 5 inches higher.

I built a kitchen island for our home. It is by far one of the best used projects I ever built. The extra height was given to accommodate two wooden stools that will be used for sitting at the breakfast bar. The bar top will be 18″ x 48″. I purchased all materials at Central Home Improvement in Antigonish. The cabinet boxes and base are made from MDF and the countertops are laminate. The bead board is also an MDF product. While MDF may be an economical choice, its messy to work with. A lot of dust, as you can see by the floor.

Working with MDF is dusty! That floor model fan came in good use.
