Bakery Menu Chalkboards

With a need to update the look of the menu presentation of a local bakery I was presented with the task of making custom menu boards to blend in with the interior of the customer service area. The following pictures are a few snapshots of the work.

Using a chalkboard paint Benjamin Moore’s Blackboard Coating (Green). Black paint is also available. This is a latex product so it cleans up easily and dries quickly. I purchased a Masonite 4ft x 8ft sheet from the local building store. I cut to make 6 panels approximately 24 inches by 32 inches. The panels sat …for a long time…before I could get to building the frames. Busy doing other things but there was no time commitment to have these completed.

For the frames I used MDF material cutting the rails and stiles at 1-3/4 inches wide with a 1/4 inch rabbet to accept the panels. I mitered cut the corners and attached them together with glue and screws. Painted the frames with a primer and two coats of a latex paint (green, different shade) to match the interior colors of the room. Below are pictures of the chalkboard menu’s installed on location.
