Excavator bucket tooth replacement
A tooth broke on the bucket a while back. Getting the pin out was not that difficult since the tooth was not in the way. Getting the new one back in was a bit of a challenge. The other side was not lining up enough. Now to get it back out and try again. Not as easy as it seems. I spend a couple hours already banging away at it with hammer and steel point.

Digging some dirt and screening some soil
Had what I call a good day today in the yard. After performing the annual chimney sweep in the morning, the afternoon was filled with seat time in the MTL (skidsteer), moving dirt and digging with the backhoe.
Stupid gopro camera stopped recording when I got going with the backhoe. Its done that before, not sure why. The camera was on a tripod so it wasn’t getting bumped around, which is the usual culprit.
Also got some dirt screening done. The screener I built has lived up to its expectations. As I need rock or soil, I dump down a load of dirt. Rocks fall on one side and the soil falls in a neat little pile for easy pick up.

Skidsteer backhoe attachment
Knowing that it was going to be along term project to remove the dirt behind the workshop I had to choose what type of machinery I was going to need to get the job done. Renting a backhoe was out of the question because the amount of time needed to have one on hand, would cost as much as buying one. Neither of which is affordable. So I went with the option of purchasing an attachment for the skidsteer.

moving some more dirt
Got some more seat time in the CAT this evening. Its been slow progress moving the dirt, as I don’t seem to get much time. The days are getting shorter now, and hopefully the days will get a bit cooler.

Stirring up some dirt with a Big Arm
Slowly making my way to levelling out the hill in behind the workshop. The Big Arm attachment is made in Canada by Horst Welding in Ontario. Also making use of the screener I built for sifting the soil.

backyard soil screening and road work
Working in the back yard, screening some forest top soil and adding to the composting pile. Also working on the old road, to take care of drainage to try and dry up the road.

Homemade Soil Screener
I’m in need of some rock to fill in some wet spots on the road that runs through our property. I also want some soil to mix into the compost pile of mulch we made earlier this year. And I want to make use of a lot of the topsoil that I am digging up from the forested area behind the garage.
A ready-made soil screener would be nice to have, but I don’t have $6,000 to spend on one. So after scrounging for a year I managed to get my hands on some used screens from a crusher plant. I have a few different sizes to use. This one I have on the rack is 5/8 x 5/8 so it will sort about anything smaller than 1/2 inch.
Its certainly is not a “production level” piece of equipment but it will serve the purpose. Best of all, it cost $0 to make.

Husqvarna LT130 ride on mower maintenance
The brake assembly on a ride on mower is very important. It slows the rotation of the blades to a stop quickly when the lever is disengaged. It appears mine has broke off and needs replacing.

12ft chainsaw lumber jig
My ‘wish list’ includes something to slab logs. Until the money comes around, I had this idea in my head for a while and finally put it to creation. 2 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood and 4 car jacks. Using a small saw,a Stihl MS230.

Search and Rescue helicopter fly by
A couple times a year there seems to be a couple different helicopters that buzz up and down the lake. So it was a surprise to the SAR helicopter here today. It buzzed over a couple times before finally taking off. For a few seconds there I thought it was in trouble.
