Decks
I've built a few decks or repaired them over the years.
-
Rebuilding a deck
This deck is in need of some real TLC. Everything needs to come out and be replaced.
-
Deck extension
A friend asked for some help with extending their deck to meet up with the rear deck.

Deck improvements with High rise skirting
The picture to the left is where the idea comes from. For lack of a better way to say it, let’s call this project high rise skirting. The idea is to improve the look of the lower portion of this deck and soften it with some curves.

Deck 16ft x 8ft single level
This project took a couple of days to do. It started out as a screened in deck, like a 3 season porch, but the plan was changed halfway through due to budget concerns.

Deck rebuild
A friend asked me to take a look at a deck that was built many years ago. He recently fixed up some of the exterior fencing and now the deck needs some real TCL. Wow…no kidding. An hour into it I had to stop and call him. There’s some SERIOUS rot going on at the house threshold.

Neighbor gets a new deck
Kathy and Lyle asked me to help out in building a patio deck at their home. We used 2×8 beams on pre-cast concrete piers, 2×6 joists 16 inches on center using metal joist hangers, topped with 6 inch wide verandah boards.

Deck railing
After this house was built it was up to the homeowner to install deck railings. So we decided to go with a picket style in the front of the house (facing the road) and a glass panel system for the rear of the home (facing the lake). I designed my own framing system for installing the glass panels.

Round deck walkway and walk-through arbor
All done. That outer edge was cut using a circular saw. You would be surprised to learn that a circular saw can indeed cut a curved line. Just make sure you wear hearing protection. These types saws are loud enough as is, but with the added friction of the circular blade rubbing against the kerf cut… trust me when I say it gets loud.

Round deck walkway part 2
Over halfway done, not its time to figure out how to curve the deck boards.

Round deck walkway
We wanted a deck walkway to go from the house entrance to the garage and on to the driveway. It starts with the framing.
