Decor a door with screen door panels
When I was making my sliding garage screen door I wanted to add something different to decorate the door. I have already chosen my plywood and tested some router bits. So now its time to get busy with the experimenting. 🙂

How to make a screen frame
As the final stage of building our garage sliding screen door its time to build the two screen frames and install the screen material. This didn’t cost me anything… well, ok, for you purist out there, it did at some point in the past. I had bought material to make the screens for our sunrooom and the scraps left over I did not throw out. So, it didn’t cost me anything EXTRA.

Sliding Screen Door for the Garage
The attached garage is a place we use to store firewood during the winter. Usually we can keep about a cord at a time. For some time now I’ve wanted to have a screen door at the entrance to allow a cross breeze with the windows on the opposite side of the garage. It would help keep the humidity down, which is something I’ve noticed a lot this year.
So I present to you the nothing fancy sliding screen door.

Sunroom on the deck screens and final pictures
A few final pictures. I didn’t get a chance to take many pictures of building the screens. But here’s a few points to remember.

Sunroom on the deck glass roof install part 10
So here you can see the aluminum track and the use of butyl tape to adhere the glass to the track and the wood frame. The grey butyl tape shown earlier along with the aluminum tracks drawings will make more sense.

Sunroom on the deck glass roof install part 9
Finally… after almost 2 months, the glass arrives. I could not get a metal brake to bend the sheet metal so I decided to bend it myself. I tried a scrape piece first for test fit.

Sunroom on the deck with shades part 8
The following few pics show the canopy we built. Three panels that hang independent of each other. Using simply supplies such as left over 3/4 inch quarter-round molding and brass cup hooks. The panels can be placed in a couple of different positions depending on the position of the sun in the sky.

Sunroom on the deck part 7
All stained, still waiting for the glass. The following few pics show the screen door built on the south side, and adjusting the door so that it can swing open. A sloped door presents its own set of challenges.

Sunroom on the deck part 5
Spent part of the morning putting up the rafters and installing some of the uprights. Nursing a sore left elbow, not sure how that happened. Slowed up by that and the drill’s battery needing recharge every hour (only have one). Its all coming together pretty good. Did some quick measures for the glass roof. Gonna need 6 sheets of approximately 22 x 111 inches.

Sunroom on the deck part 4
Finished putting the foam wedges on the other upright and cut the 2×8 upper header with a 3/8 inch deep by 1/2 inch wide rabbet to accomodate the upper edge of the safety glass ceiling panels.
