    Sawmill Blades

Diary of a sawyer (newbie stage)

I have been trying out some different band saw mill blades this past month. The blade on the bottom having already gone through the mill, past due for sharpening, the result of this newbie sawyer not knowing when to stop and change the blade. The top blade is a different brand, new out of the box and ready to start cutting.

    Selling on Amazon

🙁 Amazon deactivated our listings without warning on Thu Apr 13. While we understand compliance is priority, there are times when there is a valid reason (weather related delays). It is confusing that Amazon’s automated software only acted on the concern several weeks afterward.

    Desiderata – 1927 Max Ehrmann

    Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

    First deer sighting of 2016

This might be the momma deer and baby from last year. Although last year in the fall momma had two fawns. So I am guessing only one made it through the winter.

The fawn in hidden behind momma, but this video shows them walking away.

We are testing a new trail camera, Moultrie® GM-80xt but it has its issues. It should of easily record several images and at least two ten second videos given the amount of time the deer were in the camera’s view.

One thing we learned is that rechargeable batteries are useless in this camera, full charge Duracell batteries lasted only 1 day at 0ºC weather and the camera did not work below 0ºC. The company recommended Energizer regular batteries and it produced this image and video in -10ºC.

    Carbon tracing paper #14-CARB2

One of the easiest ways to transfer project lines to a wood surface is to use a sheet of carbon paper. Carbon paper is called many other names, like tracing paper (for tracing lines to another surface), or copy paper, or graphite paper. Traditionally used to make duplicate and triplicate copies when using a typewriter.

    Terra boots Made in Canada

We continue to support local business wherever and whenever possible. So long as product or service is reasonable in price. This week it was work shoes. While the ones I have will still do for quite some time, it doesn’t hurt to have a spare set.

    Spiral scroll saw blades

I only recently started using spiral blades myself. A few things will determine a resulting opinion.

I have a +20 yr old Ryobi saw with the set screw to clamp the blade ends. So I don’t expect miracles from the saw as a tool is only as good as the person using it. First is blade quality.

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken Breast

We did half of this slow cooker recipe with 2 chicken breasts, only change was to use just one clove garlic. Slow cooked on low for 4 hrs. It sat in the unplugged cooker for about 20 min by the time we got the other dishes together. A little dry for my liking, no fault of the recipe as it could of cooked for less time. The missus liked it and that’s all that matters. (click the image for a larger picture)
