Weeping tile keeps your basement dry

    October 29, 2015

Most folks don’t concern themselves with the weeping tile that surrounds their basement foundation. Its only when the basement starts to let water in that most folks find out its not working, or, find out what weeping tile is and does. Since we live in a rural part of Antigonish county, there are no municipal services such as water, sewer etc. Country living has its rewards, and its responsibilities.

    Plastival.com Vinyl Deck Railing

    July 26, 2014

Today we started installing a vinyl deck railing system made by a Canadian company from Quebec called Plastival. We purchased the kits from Central Home Improvement Warehouse in Antigonish.

This is a completely new decking system for me to install. So follow along in a few short videos of the different sections of railing, tips on cutting vinyl and other things learned along the way.

    Kathryn’s Garage Repair

    Back up,not paying attention

Backing up and not paying attention has its consequences, as my dear wife’s mom discovered not once… but twice! The last time was just a run in with the door frame, cracking the trim in half.  This time was more serious. The only damage to Kathryn was her pride… and a little bit to her truck.

    Product Review: RapidFix Adhesive

A few days ago I cracked the front grill of my ride-on lawn mower, Husqvarna LTH130. I thought I’d try out this product and see if it would work.

Wood splitter tire decides to split from its job

Split-fire wood splitter flat tire – tubeless

I was towing the wood splitter home after a neighbour had borrowed it. Country dirt roads do not lend well to machinery being towed that has no built-in suspension. Next thing I know I hear wump wump wump… damn.

Sunroom update – when panes become a pain

    August 15, 2013
    Custom sunroom addition.
Butyl tape not doing its job.

When I installed the safety glass on my sunroom addition, I used some commercial grade black butyl tape to stick the glass to the boards. However, now the glass is slowly sliding out.  The roof has a 15 degree pitch.  Now to figure out a solution.

    Horse carriage equipment repairs.

A local horse owner owns 4 horses and a show wagon. He was in need of another set of these, not sure what they are called. Anyway, he dropped off the piece of equipment and a plank of hardwood.
