A client up the road is upgrading a window at their cottage. The new window is larger than the present window… its renovation time. So expect the unexpected!

Spent the day finishing installing the Durock cement board, installing most of the drywall except where the plumberneeds to work. I’ve been told that 1/2 plywood could have been used or “green board” (moisture resistant drywall). I opted to use the Durock.

Removed the tub and framing. Patched the hole where the tub drain went through the floor.

A client recently bought a new home (built in 1982) and the bathroom is very small. So they are pushing out the tub 24 inches into the adjacent room. They called upon us for a review and an estimate. We discussed the project, reviewed the reno work involved and I gave them an estimate.

My wife’s father asked us to install a steel roof on his garage. We were happy to do it for him. We started at about 9am.

Tricky shed demolition – final day
I did start with the chainsaw and ended up using the recip saw. I ran into so many nails with the chainsaw, the chian was completely shot, it wouldn’t cut through the thin boards any more.

Tricky shed demolition part 3
On all the joins and around the perimeter of the roof, the builder had used 4 inch long galvanized screws with a 3/8 inch hex head. Along with stainless steel washers and I found remains of some sort of foam washer to prevent leaking… didn’t work. I had to use the impact gun with a socket to get them off.

Tricky shed demolition part 2
On our second day, my wife and I spent the morning stripping out the first shed and emptying the second shed. In the picture below, you will see the back wall…rotten…and it slopes to the left. That actually drops about 2 feet. The bottom sill plate of the wall is completely gone so the only thing holding up the wall is the fact its attached to the roof.

Our neighbor, Miss Taylor, was looking for some help to remove a couple of sheds that were built by the previous owner. The builder set their sheds to span the brook that runs next to the house. Now its 50 years later and time for removal.
