Sheep barn repairs
Both sides of this sheep barn has an entrance. Along side each door is the part of the plastic sheeting that rolls up for ventilation. This area of the barn’s design fails, in my opinion. So its my job to figure out a way to keep the plastic from tearing.

Chainsaw carved wooden bowl
I found a burl cutoff in a forest clearing the other day and instantly saw a bowl. Now, I’ve never carved a bowl before, or for that matter use a chainsaw to carve. But, I’m game to try anything once. And this was fun! Things to note…you need a really sharp cutting chain, a steady hand and preferably a secure place to hold the burl while carving out the bowl. I didn’t really have a secure place so I buried it in a pile of bark mulch near my workshop. Then I started up the saw…

Deck rebuild
A friend asked me to take a look at a deck that was built many years ago. He recently fixed up some of the exterior fencing and now the deck needs some real TCL. Wow…no kidding. An hour into it I had to stop and call him. There’s some SERIOUS rot going on at the house threshold.

Neighbor gets a new deck
Kathy and Lyle asked me to help out in building a patio deck at their home. We used 2×8 beams on pre-cast concrete piers, 2×6 joists 16 inches on center using metal joist hangers, topped with 6 inch wide verandah boards.

Reshingle a roof
The neighbor recognized he’d need some help with a job this big and a bunch of us were willing to help out. He was re-shingling the home he grew up in. I swung by and gave him a helping hand too.

Bridging the gap
The metal barn was pre-existing and the plastic dome sheep barn was recently added. Much of the heat was being lost between the gaps of the two buildings.

Wind jammers for a sheep barn
The design of the mechanism that raised and lowered the crosswind plastic windows did not compensate for strong winds. When the wind blows from certain directions, it catches the end openings when the plastic is in the lowered position. He asked if the mechanism could be sheilded. I built what I call “wind jammers” and I fixed a few other things while there.

Garage 20 x 24 ft
A friend was having this garage built so I, and another friend, gave him a helping hand. He had already arranged for the concrete pad to be poured, doing a lot of that preparation work himself. He arranged for a garage kit from Central Home Improvement to be delivered. Kits are fully equipped to build a garage although the homeowner should review materials list with builder to prevent extra trips back to cover any “extras” that the homeowner may add.
