Today we revised our downloadable pattern for the Choir Boy Ornament. And we experimented with our scroll saw a new technique.

While I was cutting this pattern, I began thinking about and the small areas like the hands and robe that not only needed to be painted properly but they also needed to be outlined in black. I can paint, but by no means do I have any skill for the fine detail work. So I got an idea. Why not “cut the black lines” on the scroll saw?!?
Well, to do this requires a little bit of planning and decision making. Like what parts to cut and where/when to stop cutting so they whole project does not fall apart or becomes too fragile. You can see in the picture below so of the cutting I did.
I think it turned out pretty good and cutting the fingers was much easier than I thought, you just have to patient and steady. The nice part of cutting like this is first, I do not have to finish up with black lines for many parts, and second, the sectioning off of the different areas really help with painting.
