Finished Candle Ornament

We have revised our downloadable pattern for the Christmas Candle Ornament. Probably the safest way to burn a candle on the Christmas tree.

Here we have a Candle ornament that you can either build flat (one piece of wood) or you can build it in layers. I built this one flat. The pattern on the plan is about 8-1/2 inches tall, I resized mine to about 5-1/2 inches tall in case I wanted to display it on my ornament stand.

The painting stage.

For that layered effect you could start with a perimeter shape “backer board” that includes the entire outline as shown below. Then paint just the flame.

Next cut out the candle as one full piece, that is the next layer.  Paint and glue it to the backer board.

Next cut out thicker wood parts for the ribbon and contour them to look like the ribbon. Paint and glue in place.

Makes a nice 3D project and a perfect way to make use of small wood parts to maximize profits. If you use thicker wood like 3/4 inch pine for the candle and ribbon, the completed project will be able to stand on its own on the fireplace mantle, or as a tabletop decoration.

Here’s an idea, write the names of your guests and the year “John Christmas 2014” on the white part of the candle and use it as a table placement AND as a gift to the guest.

If you are thinking this might be a good project for outdoors in your yard, or maybe even on your door, we offer custom resizing for a very reasonable cost. Simply contact  me.
