A client up the road is upgrading a window at their cottage. The new window is larger than the present window… its renovation time. So expect the unexpected!

With the window out and the new one larger in width, we have to see where we will start cutting.

With an outdoor plug-in located right in that area, we have to pull open the wall to see where the wires are. Wouldn’t want to cut through a wire! Notice the smaller windows on the deck in the background. I learned they want a few more windows replaced on the back of the cottage as well.

As luck would have it, the window is wider than the adjacent full stud, so out it comes.

Here we see where that outlet was located. That will have to move over just a little bit to make room for the jack stud and cripple studs.

With all the rotten wood out, we replace with new and wrap the opening in Tyvex house wrap.

Putting the finishing cuts on the interior panel, you get an idea for how much of the wall we had to remove. You can see the new window in the background.

With the window in place, all that is left to do is replace the shiplap wood siding. A trip to the lumber yard for a couple new pieces and we will call this window replacement complete.
