Bear in canoe 3D wood carving
This was a fun project, just like the 3D Moose. I always enjoy carving, just to watch something emerge from the block of wood. In this case I used a scrap piece of spruce 2×4 lumber about 6 inches long.
I stood the piece up on its edge (long edge) and drew the side profile of the bear sitting in the canoe. I then drew the front profile on the short edge (end grain). I also drew a back profile then decided that whichever profile was the largest would be the pattern I would follow. I cut the back profile on the bandsaw then taped the block back together. I then cut the side profile. After peeling away the scrap pieces what I had was a rough cut out of the bear in the canoe. Using wood rasps, round files, chisels and sandpaper to finish the project I now had a bear in a canoe. A little bit of paint and some walnut stain and it was done. This was easily done in a couple hours. Great fun!
