Star Quilt Intarsia

This project used scrap 3/4″ pine boards cut 1″ wide, 1″ long and on a 45 degree miter. The project is 40″ x 40″. I cut all these on the bandsaw. Once the main star was made the rest was custom cut to fit in each area. The cutting took only a couple hours but the fitting took a couple more. The painting took the longest part I think.

Gina used regular craft paints by applying a coat, let it set for five minutes then go back and wipe off the excess. It made for an interesting effect. All the pieces were glued onto a 1/8″ plywood backer board and left to set overnight under weighted pressure to ensure good adhesion. A custom frame was then made.
